When HTC launched its new iPhone look-alike — the One A9 — last week, it announced that the $399 price tag of the handset in the United States is a limited time promotional period offer.
It did not provide any details on when the promotional period will end and by how much the price of the handset will increase. However, the exorbitant price of the One A9 in Europe — roughly US$750 — made it clear that the handset is not going to be cheap in the U.S. post the promotional period. It was also puzzling to see the handset being priced at nearly 2x of its price in the U.S.
Today, HTC has finally provided more details about the One A9’s final price in the U.S., and has also addressed the huge difference in its price in Europe and the U.S.
“The cost of the HTC One A9 is the same worldwide to all distributors and operator partners. For end consumers, HTC’s sales regions are given the freedom to set prices and promotions as they see fit for local market needs. The One A9 price in the US is a very limited-time promotional offer for that region’s online store, as well as select HTC-only franchise stores. The offer is a special promotional pre-sale and is expected to conclude once the One A9 is available on-shelf at major retail and distributor partners.
After the promotional pre-sale offer ends, the new price in the US at htc.com will be $499.99 beginning 12:01 a.m. on 11/7.”
If you live in the United States and are interested in purchasing the One A9, the last line is important for you. Basically, from November 7, the $399 promotional pricing of the One A9 will no longer be valid — instead it will retail for $499. So, if you are interested in the One A9, make sure to buy it before the promotional period ends.
On or after November 7 though, it makes little sense for anyone to buy the One A9 at its “normal” price of $499 since you will easily be able to get the Huawei-made Google Nexus 6P in that price range, which is better than the A9 in almost every department.
