Samsung’s flagship phone, the GS4, ships with Android 4.2.2 on-board. HTC’s flagship phone, the One, does not. This upsets some people for reasons I’ll never understand, but whatever, HTC is looking to make version number junkies happy by getting Android 4.2.2 out the door sooner rather than later.

Hong Kong Android has somehow managed to score the update before everyone else, and they’ve quickly run through all the new things in the update, of which there are few. There’s the ability to see the battery percentage meter in the status bar, there’s that fancy new icon to pull up the setting pane when you’re in the notification shade, there’s Day Dream support, there’s the new ability to change the behavior of the home button so that when you long press it, it acts as if you’ve pressed the menu key.

You can also configure your One’s data connection to be cut off when the screen is off to save power, something Sony invented with “Stamina Mode”, though I fail to see the purpose of doing that. And that appears to be it.

Why is Sense 5.1 not in this update? If I knew, I’d tell you. What’s even in Sense 5.1? Again, I haven’t got the slightest clue. When will your phone get this update? No ETA, sorry.
