Samsung is not the only company that is working on a ‘Prime’ model of its early 2014 flagship. HTC is also rumored to be working on the M8 Prime — a higher end variant of the HTC One M8 for the second half of this year with a QHD screen. Today, @evleaks revealed some interesting information about this upcoming handset from HTC, including the fact that it will be made using a new exotic material — a composite of aluminium and liquid silicone.
HTC has always been known for pushing the boundaries when it comes to the build quality of their handsets, so this should not really come as a surprise. The handset will also sport a water-resistant design, which will bring HTC on par with Samsung and Sony.
@evleaks also revealed that the M8 Prime will sport a 5.5-inch QHD display and will be powered by a Snapdragon 805 chipset with four Krait cores clocked at 2.5GHz and 3GB of RAM. It will also be the first handset from HTC to feature a Cat. 6 LTE radio.
If you are intrigued about this new “exotic” material, you can read about it here. Apparently, it is almost as light as aluminium but stronger, which makes it excellent for aerospace, automotive and mobile applications. It will be interesting to see how this new material stacks up against the aluminium and glass manufactured smartphones of today.
