It is no secret that updating an Android device is a complex process and requires a lot of major companies to come together and work on it. While Android update speeds have improved greatly in recent times, it is still not as good as iOS devices. In a bid to make people understand how complex and long the update procedure for an Android device really is, HTC has released an infographic explaining how the updates are made.

The infographic explains how updates for various types of Android devices — Google Play, Carrier and Developer variants — are made and certified before being rolled out to the user. Its clear from the infographic why the developer and unlocked editions of the HTC One have received the Android 4.4 + Sense 5.5 update, but the carrier variants have not.

The page also provides a status update on the KitKat update for the AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile variants of the One. The updates are in integration stage right now, before being sent to the carrier and Google for testing and certification.

The infographic is pretty tall, and can be quite confusing for a newbie though. Head over to HTC’s Update status page to check out the infographic and get a clear picture of how Android OEMs work behind the scene in pushing out the latest Android update to your device.
