The last few years have seen major developments in the smartphone world, and the HTC HD2 has stood through it all and pretty much ran almost every mobile operating system ever since its launch in 2009. Every version of Android since Froyo has been ported to the HD2, and the near-immortal device now runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow as well.
The Marshmallow port for the HD2 has been published on the XDA forums; unsurprisingly, the ROM isn’t actually usable as a daily driver, with only a couple of features (screen, Wi-Fi, audio, and ADB) working. The port is based on CyanogenMod 13 (CM13), but anyone trying it out on their HD2 is unlikely to be able to use all the customization options CyanogenMod is popular for.
Well, not many except enthusiasts and modders probably even have an HD2 in this day and age, but it’s the latest indication that the device can run it all, even if in a broken form. We will probably see modders lose interest in porting future versions of Android (and other operating system) before the HD2 decides to bow out of the game.
