Last month, Qualcomm unveiled a new revision (v2.1) of Snapdragon 810 to solve the heating issues that were plaguing the initial version of the chipset.
Since the Snapdragon 810 has become famous for its overheating issues, many OEMs who have used the newer revision of the chipset on their devices, made it a point to highlight it in their spec sheet.
HTC was among the first companies in the market to release an Android device with a Snapdragon 810 chipset — long before the v2.1 of the chipset was detailed. So, it was presumed that the handset was running on v2.0 of the chipset that had more thermal throttling issues.
However, according to Jeff Gordon, Senior Global Online Communications Manager at HTC, the One M9 also uses a Snapdragon 810 v2.1 chipset.

A Twitter user was able to verify that his HTC One M9 does indeed comes with a Snapdragon 810 v2.1 chipset.

So, why is it a big deal that the One M9 comes with a Snapdragon 810 v2.1 chipset, you ask? Well, the Snapdragon 810 chipset found in One M9 and other initial devices was known to overheat easily. To fix this issue, Qualcomm released a new variant of the chip with better thermal management and other performance improvements.
This led many to believe that the newer version of the chip is better than the one found in initial devices like the HTC One M9. As it turns out though, the One M9 also comes with the same revision of Snapdragon 810 chipset. This basically means that irrespective of what Qualcomm wants you to believe, the Snapdragon 810 suffers from serious overheating issues — even its latest revision.
