Back at MWC this year, HTC announced its partnership with Under Armor and its first wearable device — the Grip — to go with it. The wearable was scheduled to be launched sometime in Spring this year, with other wearables from HTC to follow later this year.
HTC has now decided not to ship the Grip for now, and will instead be realigning the wearable “with the entire product portfolio for health and fitness launching later this year.” The Taiwanese OEM took this decision after “extensive wear testing and user feedback.”
What this means is that HTC will likely release a better version of the Grip along with a bunch of other wearables. What improvements the company will make to its Grip is unknown, but one can hope that the improvements made by the company will better differentiate the new version of Grip from other wearables in the market.
HTC has had a rough 2015, with its flagship handset — the One M9 — getting panned by reviewers and customers alike. The company’s shares are at a 10 year low and if Grip would have been a failure, it would have further worsened the situation for the company.
