HTC has just announced that the half year old One will be released in yet another color variant, gold. This isn’t the gold plated One we saw last month, this is more like the iPhone 5s gold colored One. Nothing else has been updated, sadly, so you’re looking at the same Snapdragon 600, the same UltraPixel camera, and the same mediocre battery life.
What other colors are there? Silver, of course, black, blue, and red. If I had to buy a One, I’d probably go with the original silver variant since it’s the most classy. Black is a bit boring, and the rest are far too ostentatious. But this is assuming I even wanted a One in the first place.
There’s a huge list of phones you should consider that aren’t the One, starting with the Nexus 5. It’s cheaper, it has better specs, and it’ll get updates to the latest versions of Android straight from Google. There’s also the G2 from LG, which comes with more internal storage (32 GB versus 16 GB) than the One, one of the best cameras in the Android space today, the faster Snapdragon 800, and an incredible battery.
When will HTC’s next flagship come out and what’s known about it thus far? Rumors say that the HTC M8 (codename) will sport 2013’s flagship specs. That means Snapdragon 800 and a 1080p 5.0 inch screen. It’ll likely be unveiled in either late February or early March, and by that point we’ll all be talking about the first 2K phones equipped with the Snapdragon 805.
