How to Type in Hindi on Android Using GBoard or SwiftKey

There is no joy like writing and expressing in your own native language. As of now most of the Android users use English keyboard to write in their own language. I personally do the same making it a Hinglish experience until I discovered the possibility of writing in Hindi in Android. Android support tons of non-English languages, including support for plenty of regional Indian languages. In this guide, we will learn how to write in Hindi in Android.

How to write in Hindi in Android

We will use the Gboard which is available on all Android Phones but if you are used to SwiftKey, you can use that too. Also, whatever you type in Hindi, the person on the other side will be able to read it even if he or she doesn’t have the same keyboard installed. The only thing the person needs to know is to read in that language.

Step 4:  Tap on the language you prefer to install and wait for a few seconds for the download to complete. Just before installing, it will offer you some option. You can either choose a regular Hindi keyboard, a compact one or even one where you can write the alphabet yourself.  If you choose to install a pure Hindi keyboard, it will not offer any kind of word suggestions.

Swiftkey is one of the best keyboards available for Android. It was probably the first third-party keyboard which introduced swipe-typing. Just like Gboard, you will need to install it from the Play Store.

Step 1: Once installed, open it. Since it’s a third-party application, you will have to give few permissions to it. Once it is successfully configured, sign in with your Google account. This will help you get better predictions, and it will remember the way you write. It will also replace your existing keyboard.

Step 2:  Open it from the app drawer and select Languages. You will need to find the Hindi keyboard either under Suggested languages or All languages. Tap to install the keyboard.
