OnePlus today started rolling out the OxygenOS 4.1.0 update for the OnePlus 3 and 3T. The update brings Android 7.1.1 Nougat to the handsets along with a handful of improvements to core functionality.
Unlike the original Nougat update that packed plenty of new features, the latest version of OxygenOS for the OnePlus 3/3T is all about refinements and under the hood improvements.
In typical OnePlus style, while the update has been officially announced, it is being rolled out in incremental stages. A wider rollout will only commence once OnePlus receives enough reports to ensure that there is no major show-stopping bug with the update. This means that you will only get the OxygenOS 4.1.0 update on your OnePlus 3/3T after the next week or so.
However, you can get the OxygenOS 4.1.0 update on your OnePlus 3/3T right away if you wish to via a simple trick. Check out the steps below to know how.
Step 1: Download Opera VPN from the Google Play Store on your OnePlus 3 or 3T. Proceed to select Canada or Germany from the list of servers on the app.
Step 2: Now, head over to Settings -> System Updates and check for a new software update. The Nougat OTA update should now show up on your OnePlus 3/3T.
Step 3: Before you start downloading the 300MB+ OTA update, disconnect the VPN server that you are connected to. This will ensure that you get the optimum download speeds.
The above trick will not void the warranty of your device or delete any of your data stored on it. You will also continue to get future OTA updates on your OnePlus 3/3T without any issues even if you use this trick.
