Among the most useful features included by Samsung in TouchWiz is Re-activation lock. The feature is similar to Apple’s Activation Lock, which prevents thieves from simply factory reseting your phone and using it.
Once re-activation lock is activated, users will be required to sign-in with their Samsung account credentials to confirm their identity after a factory reset. This is a great way of deterring thieves from stealing phones as it virtually makes the stolen device a paperweight for them.
Google has also introduced a similar feature with Android 5.1, though it is currently only available to selected Nexus owners.
For some reason though, Samsung has disabled its useful Reactivation lock feature by default, and Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge owners are explicitly required to activate it.
Before you jump over to the steps below to activate the feature, do note that it relies on a Samsung account so you will need to sign up for one before proceeding below.
Step 1: Head over to Settings -> Lock screen and security -> Find My Mobile. You will first be prompted to verify your Samsung account password or your fingerprint before you can open the sub-menu though.
Step 2: Then, simply toggle the Reactivation lock switch at the bottom to enable the feature. You will be prompted by Samsung during the process to create a password which you can easily remember, and to turn off the feature before giving the device for any repairs to a service center.
And that’s about it. Next time you factory reset your Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 edge, you will be prompted by the device to login with your Samsung account credentials before it can be used again. So, make sure that you don’t forget the password.
