Regular YouTube users have long requested for a dark theme for the web and its mobile app. Google first started rolling out dark theme for YouTube eight months ago with its iOS app and the web. Now after taking its own sweet time, Google has started rolling out the dark theme for the YouTube for Android app.
Dark Theme is particularly useful when you are using the YouTube app in a dark room or in low light. The best part is that it is easy to enable without any complicated jargons. Learn how to enable dark theme in YouTube for Android by following the steps below.
How to Enable Dark Theme in YouTube for Android
Step 1: Make sure to update the YouTube app to the latest version. Open Google Play, search for YouTube and if there is an option to update the app, make sure to do it.
Step 2: Open YouTube App and tap on your profile icon on top right and then select Settings from the menu option.
Step 3: Then select General and switch on the toggle which says ‘Dark theme’. This will enable dark theme throughout the app.
The dark theme will then be applied all across the app including the settings menu, comments, video section, and more.
In case you still can’t see the Dark Mode toggle, you can try deleting app data. Go to Settings > Storage > Apps and find the YouTube App. Tap and it will reveal the options to clear data and cache. Clear both of them. Relaunch the app and sign-in again. You should see the option now.
How to Enable Dark Theme in YouTube for Web
Step 1: Open YouTube on your browser and sign-in with your account.
Step 2: Click on your profile icon on top right. This will reveal a full-blown exhaustive menu with options like Paid memberships, My channel, etc. Look for Dark Theme in this menu.
Step 3: Click on the menu item which says ‘Dark theme: off’. This will again open another screen which will finally have a toggle for Dark Theme. Switch on that toggle.
Note: The dark theme setting will apply to this browser only. When you switch the browser or PC, you need to enable it again.
