Earlier this month, Google started rolling out the Lollipop update for all Android Wear watches. The update introduced a number of new features and enhancements, including Theater mode, an official API for custom watch faces, and more. 

Before Android Wear 5.0, taking screenshots on any Android Wear running smartwatch required users to connect the watch to their PC and then use various ADB commands to take and pull the screenshot from the device. With the latest release of Android Wear though, Google has made the process incredibly simple and does not require them to connect the device to a PC. Check out the steps below to find out how.

Before you proceed further, make sure that you are running the latest version of the Android Wear companion on your Android device. Also, make sure that your Android Wear smartwatch is connected to the device.

Step 1: Now, proceed to Settings -> About Phone on your Android device and tap on ‘Build number’ 7 times to enable Developer Options.

Step 2: Open the Android Wear app on your phone and tap the 3-dot overflow menu button on the top right. Then select the ‘Take wearable screenshot’ option. A request will then be sent to your smartwatch for taking a screenshot

Step 3: You will then receive a notification that will say ‘Wearable screenshot finished.’ For some strange reason, Google does not provide an option to save the screenshots on your Android device. So you will have to directly upload it on Dropbox or other services, or just email it to you. Simply tap the notification, select your desired option and you will be done.

While the steps to take a screenshot on an Android Wear smartwatch is still not as straightforward as on an Android device, it is a marked improvement from before. Something is better than nothing after all.
