Fortnite for Android

Fortnite Battle Royale aka Fortnite is one of the most hyped games right now on Android. Epic Games has started rolling out the beta version for Android devices. However, getting the game on your device is pretty much twisted. Instead of rolling out Fortnite right in the Google Play Store, Epic is using its own website. The primary reason is to avoid paying 30% commision to Google for its in-app purchases.

Initially, Fortnite was exclusive to Samsung devices, Galaxy Note 9 to be very specific but now it’s rolling out for a certain set of Android devices.

How to Install Fortnite on Android

Before starting, I want to make this point clear once again. The game is not available on the Play Store. So even if you search, you can’t find it. In fact, when you search for “Fortnite” or “Fortnite Battle Royale,” it shows the following message: “Fortnite Battle Royale by Epic Games is not available on Google Play.”

Step 1: You need to check if the game is compatible with your device. If you happen to own a Galaxy S7/S7 edge, S8/S8+, S9/S9+, Note 8 and Tab S3 or S4 tablet, its lot easier for you. You need to download Fornite through the Samsung Game Launcher. Its installed on your device and you need to search for either “Fortnite” or “Fortnite Battle Royale” and then install it.

In case you don’t have it, you need to check your device with the†list of supported devices. Below is a list of devices with which Fortnite beta is currently compatible with:

  • Samsung Galaxy S7/S7 Edge, S8/S8+, S9/S9+, Note 8, Note 9, Tab S3, Tab S4
  • Google: Pixel/Pixel XL, Pixel 2/Pixel 2 XL
  • Asus: ROG Phone, Zenfone 4 Pro, 5Z, V
  • Essential: PH-1
  • Huawei: Honor 10, Honor Play, Mate 10/Pro, Mate RS, Nova 3, P20/Pro, V10
  • LG: G5, G6, G7 ThinQ, V20, V30 / V30+
  • Nokia 8
  • OnePlus 5/5T, and 6
  • Razer Phone
  • Xiaomi Mi 5/5S/5S Plus, 6/6 Plus, Mi 8/8, Mi Mix, Mi Mix 2, Mi Mix 2S, Mi Note 2
  • ZTE: Axon 7/7s, Axon M, Nubia Z17/Z17s, Nubia Z11

Step 2: The next obvious step is to head over to Fortnite website and signup for the waiting list. You can use any device or any email ID to get this done. It need not be your Google account, but make sure you remember and have access to that account. Fortnite will link all the game progress and purchases with it.

Fortnite for Android Sign up

During signup, it will ask you if you had been playing the game before. This is only for returning customers who want to reinstall on their phone. You can use your PS or Xbox or Nintendo Switch or Facebook, Google Plus or Epic account to signup for the beta.

The last step of signup will ask you to choose your device from the list. Select your device, and then click on the yellow Select button. You will receive “You’re now on the waiting list!” at the end.

Step 3: If you thought that the waiting list is going to take a couple of days to clear, seems that’s not the case. I received the game invite almost instantly with the message “Thank you for signing up for the Fortnite Android Beta. Click the button below to pre-install Fortnite on your compatible Android device.”

Step 4: I would advise you to open the email on your phone and click the button to Download Fortnite on your Android. When you click on the button, it will take you to the Epic website. Tap the Get started button followed by download to get started. It will give you a warning, and then the download will commence. Your device might warn you but click on ok to save it.

Step 5: Since you are installing the game from an external source, you will have to give it necessary permissions. Click on the open button when the download is completed, and it will prompt you with warning message ‘For your security, your phone is not allowed to install unknown apps from this source.’

Click on settings and toggle on the option which says ‘Allow from this source’. Tap on the back button. Now you can click on the install button to proceed with the installation.

Step 6: The last step is to launch the game, give it the required permissions which includes access to storage. The size of the APK is pretty small but the game itself downloads a lot of files to complete the installation. Depending on your network speed, the download procedure will take some time to complete.
