Honor today launched the Honor 9N in the crowded mid-range smartphone market of India. The handset sits below the Rs 15,000 price range and competes against Honor’s own offerings like the Honor 7X, Honor 9 Lite, along with the massively popular Redmi Note 5 Pro.

The Honor 9 features a notched 5.84-inch FHD+ display at the front with a 19:9 aspect ratio. The notch can be turned off to convert the display into an 18:9 panel. The notch allows Honor to reduce the screen-to-body ratio on the handset to 79 percent. The rear design of the handset is similar to that of the Honor 9 Lite which means you get a glass back, with Honor spicing things up by offering the phone in a variety of attractive colors.

Internally, the Honor 9N does not bring anything new to the table. It features largely the same internals as the Honor 9 Lite and the Honor 7X.  This means you are getting an octa-core Kirin 659 chipset, 3/4GB RAM, and up to 64GB of storage space. There’s a 3,000mAh battery along with Wi-Fi n, Bluetooth 4.2, fingerprint scanner, hybrid microSD card slot, and dual-SIM connectivity.

On the camera front, the Honor 9N features a dual-camera setup at the rear comprising of a primary 13MP shooter accompanied by 2MP depth sensor and an LED flash. At the front, there’s a 16MP selfie snapper that is also used to offer face unlock.

The handset runs on Android 8.0 Oreo with Huawei’s Emotion UI 8.0 on top of it. This means one will get plenty of customization options and features to play around with. The handset will also get Huawei’s GPU Turbo technology via a software update later this year that will boost GPU performance by 60 percent while reducing power consumption by 30 percent.

The base variant of the Honor 9N is priced at Rs 11,999 featuring 3GB RAM and 32GB of storage space. The 4GB RAM with 64GB storage is priced at Rs 13,999, while a 128GB version launching later this year will be sold for Rs 17,999. Apart from Flipkart, the Honor 9N will also be available through Honor’s own online store from July 31.
