Samsung is going to hold a press conference at two in the afternoon today, Las Vegas time. I’m going to be asleep by then since I’m on the other side of the world, but I’m fine with that, because I already have a pretty good guess at what they’re going to announce. According to SamMobile and @evleaks, two sources I tend to trust, we’re going to see at least four tablets.

Apple’s Korean archrival is going to have two classes of tablets, the Pro line and the Lite line. From what I can tell, the Pro line will all feature a Snapdragon 800, either 2 GB or 3 GB of RAM, WQXGA screens (2560 x 1600), and come in 12.2 inch, 10.1 inch, and 8.4 inch sizes. There will also be a “Note” variant of the 12.2 inch Pro that uses a stylus. There will also likely be a fifth tablet, the alleged Galaxy Tab 3 Lite, which is supposed to be Samsung’s first sub-$150 tablet.

Why am I not staying up for the press event? Because Android tablets have never really interested me. But say I was crazy enough to get one. It definitely wouldn’t be a Samsung. It would be a Nexus. Not only is the Nexus cheaper, but you can get a model with 32 GB of storage and 4G LTE for less than what Samsung charges for some of their mid-range WiFi only tablets. You really do pay for the Samsung brand, and I doubt that’s going to change this year.

Now to be really honest, if you’re thinking of buying a tablet, why are you looking at anything other than an iPad? Android rocks on phones, but tablets?

It’s not even a contest.
