Motion Stills Android

Google’s Motion Stills app allows users to create GIFs using their phone’s camera. However, this app has only been available on iOS devices up until now. Google is finally bringing the app to Android nearly a year after it was launched on iOS.

It’s a simple app that lets users create short and looping videos to share around social media. The app has pretty simple functionality too. Google claims that the Android app comes “with an improved trimming algorithm that guards against pocket shots and accidental camera shakes”. The app doesn’t require an internet connection to work.

The camera viewfinder also has an option to toggle the video stabilizer which can get rid of any accidental shakes. Google is using an algorithm which stabilizes each frame as it is being recorded. This basically allows you to create exciting 3-second GIFs and share them almost immediately without any waiting.

Naturally, you can also record longer videos (up to one minute) and compress them into the shorter format. Google uses a feature called fast forward to speed up longer GIFs without sacrificing much on the overall quality. You can speed up your video by up to 8 times its original speed, thus helping you compress longer GIFs.

The app is compatible with smartphones and tablets running Android 5.1 or up, and can be downloaded from the Play Store for free right away.
