Gboard

Earlier today, Google released a new keyboard for iOS dubbed GBoard. The keyboard allows iPhone users to directly do a Google Search from within the keyboard itself — a very unique feature that no other third-party keyboard has. However, the lack of an Android version of the keyboard bummed many Android users.

After all, in this day and age, why would Google only release an app for iPhone and not for Android, its own mobile operating system?

Well, the good news is that the GBoard product lead has revealed that the keyboard will be making its way to Android. The sad news is that there is no clear timeframe, and the way the comment was phrased, it seemed like development on the keyboard has just started.

Gboard-Android

While there are plenty of third-party apps in the Google Play Store, GBoard is unique because it allows one to do a Google search right from within the keyboard. You can then share the relevant result in the conversation you are having. You can also use the keyboard to quickly search for relevant GIFs or emoji and share them in a conversation.

It is likely that Google will be launching GBoard as a separate keyboard app for Android and not merge its features into the Google Keyboard app for Android, which received a major update earlier this month.
