Google Translate translation update

Up until this point, Google Translate was already a very powerful tool for providing information in a foreign land whenever it was needed. But now it’s becoming even better.

Via the official Google blog, an update for Google Translate has been revealed, which will improve not only the instant visual translation tool, but also give a big boost to the real-time voice translation mechanism that helps so many people around the world say what they need to say in a different language.

First up, the update to the instant visual translation tool, which, up until now, supported only 7 different languages. Now, though, Google has bumped that number up to 27:

You can now translate to and from English and Bulgarian, Catalan, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Filipino, Finnish, Hungarian, Indonesian, Lithuanian, Norwegian, Polish, Romanian, Slovak, Swedish, Turkish and Ukrainian. You can also do one-way translations from English to Hindi and Thai

Those languages are adding to the already present English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.

If you want to get access to those languages, simply load up Google Translate, open up the camera and set “English” with the language you’d like to translate. You’ll then be prompted to download new software, which Google says measures in at about 2MB. Once that’s done, you’ll have access to the laundry list of new languages.

The other big part of the newest update is for those with slower network connections, as Google makes changes to make sure that the real-time voice translation works even faster, despite the slow network. This enables real-time translation over 32 different languages, and Google says that once the update is applied, a slow network connection won’t hinder those conversations.

The update should be rolling out now, so keep an eye out for it. A link to Google Translate is available below.
