Google has started sending out invites for its Google Play event to be held on October 24th. The event invite does not include a reference to Android, but instead contains a Google Play logo with the tag line “Join us for a night out with Google Play.”

The event will be held in New York City and is scheduled to start from 7PM. There will also be a special performance from Capital Cities during the event.

While it is surprising to see Google send out an invite without any reference to Android, it will be almost criminal in nature for the company to hold an event this late into the year and not announce the new Nexus 5, Nexus 10 and Android 4.4 KitKat.

Update: Bad news folks! The event is in no way related to the Nexus 5 or Android 4.4 KitKat. There won’t be any major announcement from Google at this event, and the invite was erroneously sent out to Geek.com.
