Google is already rumored to announce a bunch of new hardware at its October 4th event. Leaks point to the company unveiling the new Pixel smartphones, Chromecast Ultra, Google Home, Google Wi-Fi, and more. However, it looks like the biggest announcement from the company is going to be something completely else, something about which we have heard very little of so far.

The rumored merger of Android and ChromeOS. While rumors surrounding ChromeOS and Android have been floating around for the last couple of years, it looks like Google is finally ready to go public with its plans this year. Dubbed Andromeda internally, the merger of ChromeOS and Android would see major parts of the former being integrated into the latter to make the OS more suitable for hybrid devices like laptops and 2-in-1s.

The above tweet from Hiroshi Lockheimer, SVP of Android, Chrome, and Google Play further solidify the probability of Google announcing Andromeda at its October 4th event.

It sure will be interesting to see how the integration benefits Android as a whole, and if it helps in making Android more suitable as an OS for hybrid devices. Google has been bringing major features from both its operating systems to each other. ChromeOS recently gained support for Google Play, while Android Nougat takes cues from ChromeOS for its seamless updates feature
