Google is now rolling out a new ‘H’ update for Wear OS with a number of improvements. The oddly named update brings a number of efficiency improvements that will help extend battery life on Wear OS watches.
Google says this new Wear OS update will be rolled out to existing Wear OS watches in the “next few months.” Below is the official change-log of the update:
Battery Saver Mode Updates:This update extends your battery life even further by turning on Battery Saver to only display the time once your battery falls below 10%.Improved Off Body Efficiency:After 30 minutes of inactivity your watch will go into deep sleep mode to conserve battery.Smart App Resume for all Apps:You can now easily pick up where you left off across all apps on your watch. Two Step Power Off:You can now turn off your watch in two easy steps. To turn off your watch, simply hold the power button until you see the power off screen and then select ‘power off’ or ‘restart’
It is great to see Google rolling out regular platform updates for Wear OS. At one point, it seemed that the company had completely given up on its wearable platform. But over the last few months, it has rolled out multiple updates for Wear OS enhancing its performance, stability, whilst also adding new features to it.
When compared to watchOS and Apple Watch though, Google’s wearable platform is still far behind the competition. Apart from making major strides in its software, the company also needs to work with its partner OEMs on improving the internal hardware of Wear OS watches.
