August has just begun and Google has already released the monthly security bulletin for Android alongside the updated factory images for its Nexus devices. Just like last month, August’s security update has also been split into two parts.

The security patch dated August 1 has patches for vulnerabilities discovered in the Mediaserver, framework APIs, system UI, and more, with only one remote code execution vulnerability in Mediaserver being marked as critical. The August 5th security patch will arrive later this week and has patches related to low-level hardware and drivers from Qualcomm.

While the OTA update for Nexus devices with the 5th August security patch will go live later this week, Google has already uploaded the latest factory images and the OTA zip file for them over here. For the Nexus 5, the update also fixes the low volume bug that many users were reporting after installing the July security update.

While Google has been doing a good job in rolling out monthly security updates for its devices, other OEMs have faired poorly on this front. Samsung is the only OEM that has been rolling out monthly security updates for all its flagship devices, but others like LG, HTC, and Motorola have not shown in updating their devices with the monthly security patches from Google.
