During the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL official unveiling, Google highlighted AR stickers for the camera app of the handset. Now, post the release of Android 8.1, Google has also made the AR Stickers app available for its Pixel devices.

The AR Stickers app is available for the Pixel 2 as well as the original Pixel lineup from last year running Android 8.1 Oreo.

Once you have installed the AR Stickers app from the Play Store and updated the ARCore framework, you can open the Google Camera app and select the “AR Stickers” option from there. After this, you will be able to drag virtual characters like dinosaurs, BB-8 droid, characters from “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” and others to the camera viewfinder and place them anywhere you want.

You can resize the AR stickers, move them around and even interact with a selected few of them. Google hopes that by using AR Stickers you would be able to bring your photos and videos to life.

I played around with the feature for a few minutes on my Pixel 2 XL and I must say Google has implemented it nicely. The AR Stickers did not move at all despite me moving the phone around.
