Google Play Free App Week

Recent changes to the Google Play Store policies mean that developers can now temporarily list their apps as free on the Play Store. Many developers have been taking advantage of this new rule from Google to better promote their apps. And now to promote their apps and ensure that users don’t miss out on great deals, Google has added a ‘Free App of the Week’ section to the Play Store.

As the name suggests, the section will highlight one free app for the whole week. For this week, Google is promoting ‘Card Wars – Adventure Time’, a game that usually costs $2.99.

Remember that once you download and install a paid app on your Android device, the app will forever be yours even if the developer makes it paid later on. The iOS App Store has offered a similar functionality since years, so it is nice to see Google getting around to adding something similar to the Play Store.

For now, it looks like Free App of the Week section is only available in the US Play Store as it is now showing up for me on the Indian Google Play Store. Do let us know if you are seeing the section in your region’s Play Store or not.
