Google today announced an update for Google Play Services (v6.1) which brings with Enhanced Ecommerce analytics, a refresh of the Google Fit Developer Preview and more.
Enhanced Ecommerce is an analytic extension that provides developers with “richer insights into pre-purchase shopping behavior and into product performance. It’s a great way to gain visibility into the full customer journey, helping you understand how different user acquisition campaigns are performing at a granular level.”
The Google Drive API for Android has also received some enhancements and now features Completion Events, which allows developers to see when the actions were reported to the server and improve the response time to conflicts. The File Picker UI has also been updated and now features some elements from the Material Design along with Recent and Starred views.
Lastly, Google has also refreshed the Developer Preview of Google Fit in this release of Play Services. So if you are working on any fitness app with Google Fit integration, now will be a good time to test it on your Android device.
Most of the new features introduced in Google Play Services are targeted towards developers and should not affect the end users directly. Indirectly though, users will get access to richer apps and better targeted content.
Google says that Play Services 6.1 will start rolling out over the next few weeks to all Android devices out there. You can, however, manually sideload the APK by downloading it from here.
