Google has started rolling out a major new update for its Play Books app for Android that is optimised for reading nonfiction books.

The update brings with a whole lot of Material goodness including a colored status bar, new animations and a redesigned menu. The new design will better allow readers to skim through content via its Skim mode and also comes with a new Table of Contents view.

Students can also highlight specific contents in a book and add comment to them, which they can then access later on easily using the Skim mode. They can also jump between multiple pages using the new Quick Bookmark feature.

You can manually sideload the APK of the update from here or wait patiently until the update notification pops up on your Android device.
