Some users of the Google Pixel are apparently facing issues while trying to download and install the July security patch for the handset. While the extent of the issue is yet to be ascertained, a large number of people are reporting this bug on social media platforms, including Reddit. It seems like this bug is only affecting the standard Google Pixel handsets, while Pixel XL customers don’t seem to be facing any issues at this point.
Customers are simply seeing a prompt saying “Couldn’t update – installation problem” while going through the update process. The July security patch is a minor update with all the necessary security updates in place. A delay in getting this particular update shouldn’t affect the customers a great deal, although users are expected to be on edge. Since the bug was discovered less than a day ago, Google is yet to come up with an explanation.
The Pixel previously suffered from more serious issues like the Bluetooth bug, which was subsequently patched by the company. With widespread reports of this new bug coming through, one can expect Google to issue a fresh update over the coming weeks.
