A Google Pixel kernel developer over at Google has confirmed while responding to a thread in a Pixel XL AMA on Reddit that the handsets will be gaining support for double tap to wake “soon.”

Out of the box, both Pixel and Pixel XL lack the double tap to wake functionality, which goes against some of the initial leaks that we had heard about the devices. As per nickdesaulniers, kernel developer for the Pixel over at Google, the feature was pulled at the last minute and will be back soon presumably via a software update.

The Pixel XL AMA done on Reddit by TCATS5986 also provides quite a fair bit of information about the handset. He confirms that the Pixel XL comes with a LED notification light, and if the sample camera comparison photos posted by him, the difference in image quality between the Nexus 6P (sample shots) and the Pixel XL (sample shots) is pretty noticeable. However, HDR+ was turned off on the Nexus 6P, which does make a huge difference. The focus of the 12MP shooter on the Pixel XL is a little wonky especially while taking macros, but it is likely that Google will solve this with a software update when the phone hits the retail stores.

More impressively perhaps, a sample video posted by the user shows just how impressive EIS on the Pixel really is. The handsets have been criticised for the lack of OIS, but it looks like Google has really stepped up its game with EIS this year.
