At this point, its no secret that the LG-supplied POLED display used on the Pixel 2 XL is not worthy of being used on a flagship phone launched in 2017. As if the various issues like poor viewing angles and overall poor image quality were not already enough, it has been discovered that the Pixel 2 XL’s display suffers from another more serious issue: burn-in.

While all OLED panels are prone to burn-in issues, it usually occurs after a year or two of heavy use. With the Pixel 2 XL? Users who got the phone less than a week ago are complaining of burn-in issues. This is a serious issue since the burn-in problem is only going to get worse with time.

The issue only seems to be present on the Pixel 2 XL since the smaller Pixel which uses a Samsung OLED panel does not suffer from any such issue.

The Verge reached out to a statement from Google and the company said that it is actively investigating reports of screen burn-in issues on the Pixel 2 XL.

The Pixel 2 XL screen has been designed with an advanced POLED technology, including QHD+ resolution, wide color gamut, and high contrast ratio for natural and beautiful colors and renderings. We put all of our products through extensive quality testing before launch and in the manufacturing of every unit. We are actively investigating this report.

The Pixel 2 XL’s display has already come under a lot of criticism and this screen burn-in issue only makes the whole thing worse. While one might be able to live with the subpar display on the Pixel 2 XL, using an OLED panel with burn-in issues within a week of purchasing it is going to be a tough pill to swallow for many.
