Google Photos UI update

Google is rolling out a pretty major update to the Google Photos app for Android that makes it easier to navigate around the app. Additionally, the update also renames the weirdly named ‘Collections’ to a more understandable term: Albums.

Google says to make navigation faster and easier, it has added a bottom navigation bar in the app that provides you with quick access to Assistant, Albums and Photos. The bottom bar, however, does not automatically hide itself when you start scrolling in the Photos app. Hopefully, Google will add this functionality in a future update to the app because otherwise the bottom bar ends up taking precious real screen estate while scrolling through your photos.

Apart from renaming Collections to Albums, Google has also added a new carousel view to it that allows one quick and easy access to their shared albums, people, places, things, animations and more.

Google Photos v1.15 is being rolled out in stages, but you can always manually grab the APK from here and sideload it on to your device. A similar update for the iOS version of the app will also be released soon.
