Here is some good news for Android users residing in Germany. It looks like Google has silently flipped on the switch on its “what’s thing song” music recognition feature in Google Now in Germany.
Up until now, the “what’s this song” feature was only available to Jelly Bean users in the United States. Many Android users from Germany are reporting that the service is working sporadically for them, while for others, it is working flawlessly and almost instantly.
If you live in Germany, simply tap the microphone button in Google Now, say “what’s thing song” and then point the phone towards the music that is playing and Google Now will automatically identify it for you. If that does not work, simply tap the microphone button and wait for Google Now to automatically identify the music.
Back in 2012, Google had released the Sound Search for Google Play widget on the Play Store that used to identify music, and then take the user directly to the Play Store with option to buy it. However, around the end of 2012, Google directly added this functionality to Google Now, but limited the feature to only United States.
Let us know if the feature is available for you in your country.
