Google today announced that it will start providing helpful lane guidance for highways in Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the UK and Ireland.

Now, when you are using Google Maps in turn-by-turn navigation mode, Google will show you which lane you should be staying in or move to so that you don’t miss the turn. On an intersection with multiple lans, voice guidance will provide you with suggestions for lanes that will be appropriate for your route.

Next time when you are using Navigation on your iPhone or Android device to navigate to a particular location, simply tap the navigation icon displayed on the screen to get voice-guided assistance, along with lane guidance.

This is a server side update from Google, so it will be automatically enabled for all Google Maps users in the European region over the next few days.
