Google’s Dialer app, which made its debut on the Google Play Store earlier this year, is now compatible with a whole bunch of non-Nexus devices. When it initially launched, the app was only compatible with Nexus devices, though it did work on some devices when manually sideloaded.
Seemingly, the last update to the Dialer app from Google, which was rolled out a few weeks ago, added compatibility for other Android device. Reports suggest that the Dialer app works perfectly on the HTC 10, Samsung Galaxy S7, Galaxy S6, Galaxy Note 5, LG G4, LG V10, and other recent Android smartphones. The app is only compatible with Marshmallow running devices though.
If you do end up switching to Google Dialer, make sure to grant it the required permissions to your contacts, location, and calling for it to work properly.
Apart from looking pretty, Google’s Dialer app also features built-in Google Search and Caller ID functionality. The former allows you to search for a restaurant or pizza place nearby and call them directly for a reservation, while the latter automatically identifies the person calling you. The app also features call blocking functionality and visual voicemail.
