Google Glass, is it a brilliant idea or is it totally ridiculous? The world will have to wait until 2014 to find out, because that’s when it’ll finally go on sale. Sure, there are people walking around the streets of New York City and San Francisco wearing Glass, but they’re one of the lucky 10,000 people or so who got in on the alpha program. That and they paid an obscene amount of money, $1500 at a minimum.
Thanks to a recent piece published in The New York Times about how awesome Glass is, because you know, these pieces get published at least once a week by various media outlets trying to sell more dead trees, there’s now official confirmation from Google themselves that Glass will not only be available in 2014, but that it’ll have an App Store too.
The exact quote:
“The company says an app store is coming next year, when Glass is available to the general public.”
Now let me make myself clear: I’m not “against” Glass, I just think all the debates around Glass are pointless since the prototype that’s floating around is just that, a prototype. We the media are guilty of hyping a product that isn’t even a product yet, and that bugs me.
Fast forward to Q4 2014 and call me again, then I might have a valid opinion to provide.
