For a very brief period of time, Google Clips went up for sale back in January. However, that didn’t last long at all, and the device was put up on a waitlist soon after.
Now, Google has apparently decided the end of February is as good a time as any to start sales of its standalone camera again. Google Clips is now available to buy in the United States through Google’s online storefront. The camera, which uses machine learning to learn faces and even pets to automatically capture moments in motion photos, is available to buy for $249.
Google Clips uses the baked-in technology to take motion photos all on its own, so you don’t actually have to do anything with it but make sure the battery is charged. With a full charge, Google says Clips can last up to three hours snapping those motion photos on its own. It can store them with the 16GB of built-in storage, and you don’t need an internet connection to use Clips, either.
There is also built-in lens occlusion detection, which means if the lens of the Clips camera is blocked in some way or another, you will get a notification on your phone letting you know.
Google Clips can be clipped onto furniture, which should make it an easy way to capture moments in a set space. You can also carry around the handheld camera if you feel so inclined.
What do you think of Google Clips? Do you plan on picking one up?
