Google’s Inbox app has quickly become my favorite Gmail client on both Android and iOS, but with a few basic features still missing, it’s far from perfect. However, two important features — signatures and one-tap delete — are on the way, Google says.
While Inbox has been mostly well-received since making its debut, there has been some criticism as a result of those missing features. One particular Google+ post from Artem Russakovskii, which highlighted four of Inbox’s flaws, drew the attention of Google last week.
Those four flaws included:
- No option to mark emails as unread
- App doesn’t show labels
- No signatures
- No one-tap delete option
A reply to Russakovskii’s post from the official Inbox by Gmail account on May 21 promised that signatures and one-tap delete are both on the way to the Inbox app, so we can expect to see an update that enables these soon.
But don’t get your hopes up for a “mark as unread” option, because Google says that the pin and snooze functions “are both designed to replace mark as unread.”
This could take some getting used to for users who have long relied on the ability to mark emails as unread for follow-up later, but having used both the pin and snooze features a lot in Inbox, I do think they can be more effective.
While it’s easy to miss unread messages — particularly in a busy inbox — the ability to snooze emails and have them alert you later on means you can’t forget about them.
