LG is not a stranger to a dedicated button for Google Assistant, but Google wants it on even more devices from other companies, too.

Google has confirmed that LG and Nokia will be adding a dedicated Google Assistant button to its full lineup of devices, beginning with some recently-announced handsets. For LG, that’s the brand new LG G8 ThinQ, and it will extend to the LG K40 as well. Meanwhile, Nokia is putting a dedicated Google Assistant button on the Nokia 4.2 and Nokia 3.2.

But that’s not all. Xiaomi has also been roped into the dedicated button movement, which means the upcoming Mi 9 will see the hardware change this year. Xiaomi’s Mi Mix 3 5G is also getting the dedicated button as well. Meanwhile, TCL is adding the dedicated button to various phones later this year, with no model numbers mentioned here. And, finally, Vivo is adding the dedicated button to the V15 Pro.

Saying “Hey Google” is a pretty easy way to launch the digital personal assistant on most Android phones, but sometimes using a voice command isn’t the best way to go about that. Using a dedicated button is even easier. Google obviously sees a stable future with a dedicated button on Android phones that can launch one of its most popular products, and one simply has to wonder why on earth it took this long to get here.

Do you have a dedicated Google Assistant button on your phone already? Will you be picking up a new handset that has this feature in the future?
