While Google launched its ARCore augmented reality platform back in August of last year, it wouldn’t be until October that Samsung’s Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+, and the Galaxy Note 8 would be added to the support devices list.

And while some expected Samsung’s newest smartphones, the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+, to support ARCore right out of the gate, that wasn’t the case. At the time, there was no word on when, or if, either one of the flagship phones would support ARCore at some point in the future. But it looks like the wait is over.

9to5Google reported on Tuesday that both the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ have been added to the list of devices that support ARCore. That brings the total number of devices up to 34 that support Google’s augmented reality initiative.

Now that the Galaxy S9 supports ARCore, it means that optimized apps will run much better on the handset, improving the overall AR experience on the smartphones. It might not have been available at launch, but better late than never.
