When Google announced the Chromecast back in August of this year, the usability and extremely low price tag of the device attracted a lot of impulse buyers. For 35$, Google allowed Chromecast users to cast Netflix or Hulu Plus content to their TV with their Android device acting as a media remote.
However, the lack of the final Chromecast SDK meant that many third party developers were not able to use the $35 HDTV media streamer device to its full potential. All that changes today with Google announcing ten new apps for Chromecast.
Google wanted to control the Chromecast marketplace and has been working with developers over the last couple of months on bringing quality apps to it. These apps are based on the final SDK of the Chromecast and open up a range of possibilities. This includes casting your local photos, videos and other personal media straight to your TV using Plex, Avia or RealPlayer right from your Android device, laptop or desktop.
Below is a small list of apps that Google has introduced for the Chromecast today -:
- Avia
- Vevo
- Red Bull.TV
- Songza
- Plex
- PostTV
- Viki
- RealPlayer Cloud
- BeyondPod
- Revision 3
The Plex app has been among the most requested app for Chromecast and will allow users to cast local content that is synced with their Plex Media library. Make sure you have updated to the latest version of these apps to enjoy the casting feature.
