Love Google Now but cannot figure out why some cards never pop up for you, even though all the settings are right and you are doing everything right? Well, your Google account might just be the reason behind it.

Google has been steadily improving Now by making it location and content aware and adding new cards that make use of the data from your Gmail account.

However, even with all the Location settings and other options enabled, Google Now never displayed anything apart from the Weather and Birthdays card for me. The Flight, Commute sharing, Hotel booking cards just did not show up for me, even though I had the emails right there in my inbox.

Turning Google Now, Location History on/off did nothing as well. Ultimately, it turns out the issue is with my Google account itself. My primary Google ID is based on Google Apps, which is the root cause behind this issue.

Google Now will not show you any of the Gmail based cards if you have a Google Apps based account. This is what Google says on the Gmail card page of Google Now -:

Gmail cards are currently not available when using Google Now with a Google Apps account.

This means that if you are using a Google Apps account with Google Now, you have to effectively say goodbye to the Package tracking card, Restaurants, Flight, Hotel, Movie ticket booking/confirmation cards and any other card that relies on data from Gmail. Also, if you own a paid Google apps account, you will have to manually activate Google Now for all users in that sub-domain.

While I understand that Google might not have offered this feature due to security issues, it really should inform Google Apps users about what they are missing.
