Gionee today unveiled its flagship handset for 2016: the S8. The handset comes with an all-metallic “loop metal” design that ensures the handset’s antenna lines are invisible without sacrificing on performance in anyway.
The S8 comes with a 5.5-inch display protected by a 2.5D glass which is coated with colorful VM that has a multi-color effect when viewed from different angles. The Super AMOLED display only has a 0.7mm thick side bezels, which is among the lowest in the industry for a phone with a 5.5-inch display.
The Gionee S8 is powered by a MediaTek octa-core Helio P10 chipset, 4GB RAM, and packs 64GB internal storage. The handset also offers Force Touch akin to 3D Touch on the iPhone 6s and a 3,000mAh battery.
The rear of the S8 houses a 16MP shooter with an f/1.8 aperture with Phase Detection Autofocus and LaserAF sensor, while the front houses an 8MP camera.
The S8 is the first smartphone from Gionee to run on Amigo 3.2, which is based on Marshmallow. It also features the company’s upgraded Image+ 2.0 camera software that comes with features like Full Skin Beauty function, OCR recognition, Flash Selfie and more.
The Gionee S8 has been priced at 449 Euros and will go on sale from March. Slowly but steadily, Gionee has made a name for itself in the Chinese and Indian smartphone market, so it will be interesting to see how the company’s latest flagship does in the market.
