Earlier today, Samsung announced that it has started the beta program of Samsung Experience 9.0 based on Android 8.0 Oreo for the Galaxy S8 and S8+ in selected markets. While the final rollout of the update is likely to happen by the end of this year, Galaxy S8 and S8+ owners are eagerly looking forward to what all changes Samsung will be introducing with the Oreo update.

What’s new in Android 8.0 Oreo/Samsung Experience 9.0 on Samsung Galaxy S8

• All the core Android 8.0 Oreo features like Autofill, the ability to snooze/pin notifications, Notification Channels etc. are all present on the Galaxy S8 and work as intended. Samsung has also updated Samsung Pass to take advantage of the Autofill API in Oreo.

• Support for Notification badges
• Notification Dots has been renamed to App Icon badges by Samsung
• Smart Share menu
• Option to Turn on Wi-Fi automatically at places where you primarily use it
• Support for Hotspot 2.0 – You can connect to Wi-Fi AP without password
• A new elegant look for the lock screen
• New clock styles for the Always On Display
• Ability to customise notification transparency
• Galaxy Note 8’s App Pair functionality will also be available on the S8 post the Oreo update

• New set of emoji

• Updated keyboard which is simpler to use
• Simplified Edge Panel
• Updated Edge lighting styles

• Improved File manager app
• Ability to hide albums in Gallery
• Improved Smart View functionality

In addition to all the changes mentioned above, the Android 8.0 Oreo update should also bring about performance and battery life improvements to the Galaxy S8 and S8+.
