Galaxy S6

Earlier this week, Samsung announced its flagship handset(s) for 2015 — Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge. The handsets pack in some impressive piece of technology, and come with an all-metal and glass design, which is surprising for a device that is made by Samsung.

At the launch event of the handset, Samsung did not reveal much about the price and availability of its latest flagship, except for stating that it will be available in more than 20 countries from around the world from April 10th.

Since the event though, more information about the pricing and availability of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge have been made available by various carriers and retailers from across the globe. Below we round up all the news about the news about the availability and pricing of Samsung’s latest flagships to save you some trouble.

    Availability

    Galaxy S6 Edge

In key markets across the world like Europe, India, the U.K., the Galaxy S6 will be available from April 10th onwards. In Europe, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge have already gone on pre-order, though their final shipping date is not yet known.

In the United States though, the handset will be available through AT&T, T-Mobile and other carriers towards the end of April or possibly early May.

In Samsung’s home market, South Korea, the Galaxy S6 should go on sale early — possibly by the end of March or early April. Samsung has always released its flagship handsets a week or two before their official worldwide launch in South Korea, so this should not really come as a surprise.

    Pricing

    S6 Edge

In the United States, it is very likely that Samsung will be selling the Galaxy S6 for $199 on a two-year contract across all the major carriers, since that’s the price it has always charged for its flagship handset. As for its edge sibling, I’d expect it to be available for $299 or even $349 on a two-year contract.

The price of the unlocked, retail variant of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge in the United States are not yet known, though I expect the 128GB variant of S6 edge to easily cost more than $1000.

Since the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge have already gone on preorder in Europe, the final price of the retail, unlocked variants of the handsets are already known, which are as follows:

    • Galaxy S6 32GB — €699
    • Galaxy S6 64GB — €799
    • Galaxy S6 128GB — €899
    • Galaxy S6 Edge 32GB — €849
    • Galaxy S6 Edge 64GB — €949
    • Galaxy S6 Edge 128GB — €1,049

Converting the above prices into US$ will not be the correct indicator of the prices of the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge in the United States, because of the difference in taxes, import duties and other factors.

As for other regions of the world, the Galaxy S6 will probably be priced the same or slightly higher than what the Galaxy S5 was priced at in your country. The Galaxy S6 edge, however, will easily cost at least $150 more, thanks to its dual-edge curved screen.
