Branding on smartphones can be tricky, with some companies opting to go heavy-handed when it comes to putting their own logs on the small smartphones.

That mentality will change in Japan, though, as far as Samsung’s Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge are concerned. According to a report surfaced recently, Samsung is opting to ditch the “Samsung” part of the branding on its latest flagships for their launch in Japan, and has instead decided to co-brand with local carriers. According to the Korea Herald, the smartphones will launch under Docomo and au in the region, with the devices called “Docomo Galaxy” and “au Galaxy.”

The branding change goes beyond smartphones, too, with the changes going to Samsung’s Facebook page for Japan, as well as the Galaxy charger.

What do you think of the change in branding? Should Samsung opt for this in other areas?
