Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime

According to a report by Asia Today, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime (a.k.a. Project KQ) will be launched in June this year. The Korean newspaper was quoting industry sources which claim that an upgraded version of the current Samsung flagship will break cover later this year.

The timing of the launch will be very interesting as the LG G3 is expected to be announced at about the same time. Considering that the two companies are vying to be the first major manufacturer to have a 2K display smartphone in the market, Samsung’s urgency is justified. We have already seen the LG G3 in leaks before, so we know it is very much on its way.

Apart from the 2K resolution display, the Galaxy S5 Prime should feature the Snapdragon 801 SoC, the same 16-megapixel ISOCELL camera sensor as the one on the Galaxy S5, and a metal chassis as various rumors have indicated.

The smartphone is also said to be launching in an octa-core Exynos 5430 variant just like the Galaxy S5, so nothing’s different with the company’s approach to new devices. The LTE variant should also sport the Snapdragon 801 chipset, much like the Galaxy S5.
