Ahead of the Galaxy Note 8 launch next month, the folks over at Display Mate have gone ahead and published their analysis of the 6.3-inch QHD+ Infinity Display of the handset. Samsung’s OLED displays have been widely praised for their brightness, color accuracy, and other aspects over the last few years. The OLED panel on the Galaxy S8 was crowned as the Best Smartphone Display and set a benchmark in many regards.

The 6.3-inch QHD+ panel on the Galaxy Note 8, however, is even better than that of the Galaxy S8 in many regards. First and foremost, the Note 8’s display is able to reach a staggering brightness of 1,200 nits thereby making it 22 percent brighter than that of the Galaxy S8. The extra brightness will come in handy when viewing the Note 8’s display under direct harsh sunlight as it will help improve its sunlight readability. Do note that the display can only reach this brightness level when it is kept under Auto mode and under certain conditions only.

Then, DisplayMate notes that the Note 8’s OLED panel has a larger native color gamut with 112 percent of the DCI-P3 coverage. The absolute color accuracy and viewing angles of the panel have also been improved.

DisplayMate says that the 6.3-inch QHD+ panel on the Note 8 with its 18.5:9 aspect ratio is 15 percent larger than a typical 16:9 smartphone display. The higher QHD+ (2960 x 1440) resolution allows the Note 8 to have a pixel density of 521 pixels per inch. Thanks to a 100 percent coverage of the DCI-P3 color gamut and Digital Cinema Mode, the Note 8 can display high-end 4K content just like they were intended to when shot. Finally, it also comes with Mobile HDR Premium certification along with Dual Ambient light sensors at the front and back for improved auto brightness.

Unsurprisingly, thanks to its strong performance, the Note 8’s panel has been crowned as the “Best Performing Smartphone Display” by DisplayMate. Samsung has been rapidly improving its OLED displays every six months, and it is due to this rapid pace of innovation that more OEMs now want to used OLED panels on their smartphones.

It is amazing how much Samsung has been further able to refine its OLED panel technology in less than six months since the launch of the Galaxy S8. No wonder Samsung is the leader in the OLED market, both in terms of technology and market share.
