Samsung will launch the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 edge+ (also known as the Galaxy S6 edge Plus) on August 21, following an official unveiling on August 12, a new report claims. The devices are expected to be accompanied by the launch of Samsung Pay, but only for customers in the U.S. initially.

“Samsung’s plan to launch two big handsets at the same time (and risking one device eating into the sales of the other) was leaked by a report out of the Korean press a few hours ago,” SamMobile reports, “and we can confirm that it is indeed what the company intends to do.”

If true, this confirms reports that Samsung wants to launch its new flagships ahead of the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus in order to maximize sales before Apple’s new devices hit the market. But with them both being phablets, it’s likely they will eat into each other’s sales, and it’s thought Samsung is okay with that.

As has previously been reported, the Galaxy Note 5 is expected to come with a 5.97-inch Super AMOLED display with a Quad HD resolution, and Samsung’s all-in-one “ePOP” chip, which combines an Exynos 7422 CPU with a GPU, onboard storage, LTE modem, and 4GB of speedy LPDDR4 RAM.

The Galaxy Note 5 is also expected to deliver an all-new design with curved glass back and aluminum frame, which will be available in the same color options as last year’s Galaxy Note 4 — including white, black, silver, and gold. SamMobile says the Note 5 will not have a microSD card slot.

The Galaxy S6 edge+, which is said to be a “phablet version of the Galaxy S6 edge,” will reportedly bring a similar display with curves on both sides, the same Exynos 7420 chip from the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge, and 3GB of RAM. It will likely have the same camera and other internals, too.

“Provided all the information we have been given turns out to be correct, Samsung’s next UNPACKED event could be one of its biggest yet,” SamMobile adds. Samsung fans should be incredibly excited about what August will bring, then.
