A few months ago, two rumors came out of Korea. One said Apple was going to release a 12.9 inch iPad early next year, and the other said Samsung wants to “beat” Apple to the large tablet market by releasing a 12.2 inch tablet by the end of this year. According to Korean website MovePlayer, the photo you’re looking at above, which was uploaded during the weekend, is what Samsung’s 12.2 inch tablet will look like.

I’ve got mixed feelings about this. Yes, it’s supposed to be crazy powerful, with an eight core Exynos processor and a 2560 x 1600 pixel panel, but 12.2 inches? Widescreen? Android? Physical buttons? You and I both know this thing is going to end up costing a lot of money, and people looking to buy this jumbo-tablet will ask themselves what sort of benefits the 12.2 inch form factor has over the 9.7 inch iPad?

But forget about operating systems for a second, I want to go back to the design. There are clear hints of Galaxy S4 in there, but there are also hints of a new design language, one that’s more masculine, and to be frank, more like Sony’s Xperia devices.

When will we know more about this device? I want to say September 4th, but recent conversations are leading me to believe that this isn’t going to be the case.
