There is little denying the fact that the invite system used by OnePlus to buy their phones is very frustrating. While the company has improved the system this year, it still does not offer an ideal way to purchase their 2016 flagship killer.
The company has released an invite reservation list this year for the OnePlus 2 where interested consumers can sign up to receive an invite to purchase the handset. The problem, however, is that it is possible to jump ahead of others in the queue for the invite by getting your friends and family to sign up for the invite through your referral link.
Due to this, Jake Cooper, interested in purchasing the OnePlus 2, saw his position slip from somewhere in the 9,000 range to around 70,000. This frustrated Jake and he decided to take things into his own hands. A little bit of research and some python scripts later, Jake jumped from being at no. 334,633 to 1,694 in the invite queue. He says that he “actually overshot” his goal by a couple of thousand places, but he does not mind that.
If you are wondering how Jake managed to achieve this hackery, check out his detailed explanation here.
OnePlus might not like how Jake managed to hack through their invite reservation list to jump ahead in the queue, but then the company’s invite system is also not exactly loved by consumers.
